Introduction  to Physical Education School

Physical Education School consists of Public Sports Teachers’ Office, Sports Economics Teachers’ Office and Military Theory Teachers’ Office with 49 faculties, including 6 professors, 18 associate professors, 7 postgraduates, 1 Ph.D and 1 Ph.D student. They undertake the teaching tasks of PE compulsory courses, PE electives, PE courses for graduates and military theory courses for the whole university. Since 2004, teachers in PE School have published nearly 300 papers, dozens of works and teaching materials; completed many national, provincial and university researches and projects and one provincial excellent course. 

In 2006, our university was approved by the Ministry of Education as the constructive school of national advanced sports teams, which is allowed to enroll first-grade athletes, masters of sports free from the university entrance exam and second grade sportsmen with scores reaching 65% of the starting line of university entrance exam. The events recruited include field and track, swimming and tennis. The swimming team of our university has attained great success in national, provincial and municipal university games and made good achievements in the swimming events in the national Universidad on behalf of Heilongjiang Province many times. Field and track athletes (Joint Teams by University and Sports Commissions) have attended international and national games for many times and achieved excellent scores. There are also many famous coaches and referees on the international and national levels. 

There are advanced facilities of gymnasiums and stadiums: 3 natatoriums, 3 gymnasiums, 4 field and track grounds (including one large comprehensive stadium), which have held many national and international events and games. The conditions and the active area per capita for students’ gymnasiums and stadiums rank among the best in provincial universities. The PE School has established friendly and cooperative relationship with the PE Schools (sections) of universities in Japan, Korea and Russian, etc.

Sports Economics  

Training objectives: This major focuses on training professionals with a solid theoretical foundation in economics, comprehensive physical and moral development, the love for sports as well as the mastery of the basic theoretical knowledge and skills in sports economics and related subjects. They will be working for various organizations such as comprehensive economic departments, sports authorities, sports clubs and marketing department of sports industry and will engage in economic analysis, forecasting, planning and management, as well as in research and teaching tasks of sports economics

Professional characteristics: The students will be equipped with knowledge in economics, management and the basic theory of physical education. They will master methods of modern economic analysis, understand the trends in sports industry, get familiar with the market practices and regulations and know the work processes. The students will also have proficiency in a foreign language, thus being able to read foreign language materials and possess the ability of listening and speaking. They will skillfully use computers and can apply the basic theories of economics and sports economics in the field of economic analysis, research, management and business work. They will actively engage in research activities, and have the ability to analyze and solve problems.

Main courses: Sports Economics, Sports Management, Sports Sociology, Operation and Management of Sports Industry, Operation and Management of Sports Events, Sports English, Sports Marketing, Sports Management Theory and Practice, Analysis and Management of Snow and Ice Industry, Sports Regulations, Western Economics, Industrial Economics, Economic Law, Accounting and so on.

Faculty

The School of Physical Education has fifty-five faculty members; forty-nine of them are full-time, including six professors, eighteen associate professors, one senior coach, nineteen lecturers and five assistants. All of the teachers possess Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree. Nine of them have already obtained Master’s Degree, seven of them are pursuing the postgraduate studies, one of them has already got Doctor’s Degree and one is pursuing the Doctor’s Degree. Besides, twenty-nine of the whole faculty are members of the Communist Party of China. Currently, we have one international referee, two national referees, one national aerobics instructor, eight first-grade referees, one master sportsman and five provincial team member, all of whom form a faculty team with good comprehensive quality, high-level of professional skill and sound team structure. Furthermore, our faculty has established a new educational concept and has devoted themselves to the construction of teaching and curriculum with abundant energy and brand-new attitude. We have gradually formed an updated faculty team with high political quality, excellent professional ability, rational structure in title and education, as well as integration of teaching, training and scientific researching.

Since the School of Physical Education was founded, we have continuously strengthened the constitution and cultivation of high quality faculty. We insisted on taking teaching as the priority, taking discipline construction as primary task, taking scientific research as forerunner, taking updating the knowledge structure and improving the ability of teaching and research as focus. According to the policy “stability, cultivation, introduction, improvement”, we increasingly put emphasis on the construction of the faculty team and pay equal attention to the level of education and the level of knowledge. In view of the present situation of our school, junior teachers give priority to improving the level of education; on the other hand, senior teachers give priority to improving the level of knowledge and updating knowledge. In order to rationalize the teachers’ age, title and education-related structure and to improve the level of education steadily, we will make plans to provide our teachers with chances to pursue a higher degree or further training program. We have basically formed a faculty team with a reasonable overall structure, better development trend and great developing potential, which plays an important role in improving the quality of teaching and promoting the development of our school.

Enrollment and Employment

In the past five years the major of Sports Economics has enrolled 149 students from all over the country, including 22 high-level athletes. Among the first graduates of Sports Economics, three were admitted to graduate studies, one was named outstanding graduates at the provincial level, and one was admitted to the civil tax system in Harbin. The other students are distributed in the industries including education, finance, insurance, private enterprises and foreign invested enterprises, the sports administrative departments and clubs.

Academic Research

Physical Education School has made great efforts to strengthen its academic research since its foundation. Academic research is the direct impetus of teaching reform, and a sound scientific management system, high levels of staff, perfect functions of the body can ensure the teaching and academic research work towards innovative, healthy and coordinated direction. The school holds academic meetings every year, teachers attend the meetings and obtain rewards. Meanwhile they invite well-known experts for guidance. So far, 6 teachers are in charge of bureau-level and university level research projects, 22 teachers are undertaking national and provincial research project, about 300 valuable academic theses have been published, and more than 38 teachers have complied textbooks on physical education.

The school has refined its academic research management system, established award regulating system for academic research achievements, and fully strengthened academic research management of its staff. Our teachers have an in-depth research in sports training, physical health standard of school students, sports management, computer applications in multimedia technology and so on. Since its foundation, it has enrolled students in sports economics and set up the sports economics major. The teachers, especially the professional teachers, in the sports economics and sports industry have done a lot of research and made certain achievements. The research vision has been gradually broadened; the study area has been continuously expanded; a favorable academic atmosphere has been formed. This plays a positive role in cultivating high level of teaching, excellent professional ability and high level of academic research among teachers.
